As Sassy parents, we’re always on the lookout for a good indoor playroom – especially during the rainy season when outdoor playgrounds are off limits! Sometimes, we need to pack the kids off on a playdate with friends while we work from home, perhaps you need a play area that doubles up as a party venue, or an indoor play centres that also offer after-school classes. And ever so often, we want to discover a new indoor playroom as a family when we are looking for things to do with the kids on weekends.

Hong Kong’s unpredictable weather means that it’s often too hot or humid to spend a day outdoors, so keep this list of indoor playrooms and activity centres for children of all ages (and you!) at hand and bookmarked for when you most need it.

Baumhaus – Music learning centre with a unique “tree” playhouse

This centre offers creative arts, music and drama programmes, beautiful playhouses and a cafe (some Sassy parents claim their coffee is amongst the best in the city!). Its impressive play areas feature specially crafted and custom-made indoor treehouses from Germany. Because of the new safety measures, Baumhaus is operating at 50% capacity and students get priority in the playroom. Non-student children will be allowed entry on a first-come-first-served basis.

Toy Library – Free playroom in the Hong Kong Central Library

The Toy Library is the first public toy library in Hong Kong. It’s aimed at kids below 8 years old and has four play corners that are specially designed to cater to the development needs and play behaviour of children of different ages. You need to call in advance and book a 45-minute slot for you and your little one. Look out for parent-child workshops and different themes each quarter.

E3 Club – Indoor playground and toy store

This “E Cubed” Club is based on three Es: entertainment, education and exchange. You’ll find the usual soft play suspects here: slides, trampolines and ball pits. Regulated with strict rules regarding hygiene and safety, this indoor playground boasts a wide range of toys, plus a toy store and various arts and crafts workshops for kids.

Indoor playgrounds for kids in Hong Kong, Kidnetic

Kidnetic – Gym and indoor playground for kids

If your child loves swinging and bouncing around (who doesn’t?!), head to Kidnetic! Spanning 7,000 square feet, it is the largest private kids’ gym in Hong Kong. It offers gymnastics classes and features every kind of equipment imaginable: trampolines, monkey bars, beams, baby rings, slides, sponge pits, and spider swings. The Hong Kong “indoor amusement park” chain Jumpin’ Gym has many play centres with everything from game stations and rock climbing walls for older kids to soft play areas and epic ball pits for the younger ones. Most of these are located inside shopping malls and are ideal for when the little ones tire from walking around the commercial areas.

Government Indoor Playrooms – Padded soft indoor play areas for babies and toddlers

Living in Hong Kong can get quite costly. So if you’re looking for a safe and comfortable play area for the little ones but don’t want to join a membership or pay admission fees, make sure to check out these indoor playrooms that are sponsored by the Leisure and Culture Department of the Hong Kong Government. The first UK private members club for kids and their parents in Hong Kong, Maggie & Rose is a beautiful space designed for both adults and kids. Ryze – Trampoline park and indoor playroom perfect for active tweens, teens and tots (under 2’s jump for free!)

With over 7,000 square feet of interconnecting trampolines, this ultimate trampoline park is a kid’s dream! Ryze’s innovative team have created special indoor play areas for sporty children to play dodgeball, basketball and even a series of fun foam pits to dive into. Get there early for the morning KidJump or join in during the day for the open jump, suitable for all ages. Verm City – Indoor playground with climbing wall and gym

If your children are a little older and looking for something more challenging, Hong Kong’s “first full facility rock climbing gym” has everything from bouldering to lead climbing and top rope. Its Clip N’ Climb system is suitable for ages 4 and above and is designed to be a rock climbing amusement park for beginners and experts alike. There are also free classes and workshops for those age 17 and over. Remember to wear non-marking sports shoes!

Donut Playhouse – Indoor play area with a giant slide

If you are over at K11 MUSEA, you can choose to shop, while your kids drop…down three floors of the Happy Mega Slide! This giant slide has been designed by famous Denmark designer, Ole Barslund Nielsenb, and is part of Donut Playhouse. Little Beetles – Toy store with a well-designed kids’ playroom

Well-loved toy store, Little Beetles, has moved from Happy Valley to Hung Hom. It certainly stands by its “learning is fun” attitude, with 90% of its playroom material made by HABA, the quality German toy brand. Its play area has a range of fun and educational activities and games for kids up to 3 years old. This cute little space will not disappoint – make sure to call and book in advance and remember to wear socks! The centre is still currently closed following the COVID restrictions as they are also doing some renovations. Check the website or Facebook page for news on the re-opening.
